Co-financing tuition for adults
Adult’s skills development is one of the key elements driving personal growth. Despite a relatively high participation rate of adults in lifelong learning in Slovenia (14, 5 % in 2012), data suggests that especially the lower educated have below-average participation rates.
The programme for reducing the educational deficit intended to improve the general education of adults and raise educational level of Slovene citizens aged 25 to 64 years.
By co-funding tuition fees, adults were encouraged to complete the programmes of formal education up to secondary level (ISCED 5) and in thus raise their education level. The goal was to improve individual’s chance of employment and enhance his labour market competitiveness.
Important Achievements for the period 2007-2013:
- more than 7.000 adults achieved higher level of education/new profession,
- individuals established new social networks,
- realizing the concept of lifelong learning and
- more than EUR 10.000.000 invested.
European Social Fund and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport supported the programme financially.
In the Period, 2013-2020 the programme will focus on people over the age of 45 and the low skilled as core target groups.
